German public station Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) has added the Solutions for Media (S4M) PlayoutControl module to its Video Production Management System (VPMS) at its playout center in Leipzig.

MDR’s control room staff will use the PlayoutControl module to control the station’s video servers.

The station has used VPMS since the end of 2003 to control video capture and manage storage for high-resolution broadcast quality video. VPMS allows MDR to collect metadata and to both view and edit video in lower resolution at conventional PC workstations.

VPMS PlayoutControl lets MDR staff direct processes in the control room, such as the playout of reports and program elements. It also allows reports to be ingested from tape.
