Georgia Public Broadcasting to install Harris transmission equipment

Broadcast Integration Group, part of TI Broadcast Solutions Group, will install both analog and digital transmitters from Harris at all of its nine stations in the Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) PBS station group. The order includes seven Harris Platinum VHF DTV transmitters, two Diamond UHF DTV transmitters and two Platinum VHF NTSC analog transmitters. All nine stations are scheduled to receive digital transmitters for installation over the next year.

The DTV transmitters will be outfitted with Harris’ Apex digital exciter, and every transmitter will feature the Harris eCDi system, which enables remote control and monitoring of any transmitter in the network. The TI Broadcast Solutions Group of Norcross, GA, will handle transmitter integration and program management for the statewide project, including architectural services and general construction, existing tower refurbishment, new tower construction and antenna replacements.

Georgia Public Broadcasting, which serves every county in the state, includes WGTV-TV in Atlanta; WABW-TV in Albany; WCES-TV in Augusta; WCLP-TV in Chatsworth; WJSP-TV in Columbus; WACS-TV in Dawson; WMUM-TV in Macon; WVAN-TV in Savannah; and WXGA-TV in Waycross.

WVAN and WXGA will receive the NTSC analog transmitters in order to restore reliable service to the group’s oldest transmitters. These NTSC transmitters are scheduled to convert to DTV after 2009.

When the DTV conversion is completed, the public stations will be an all VHF digital network and transmit a mix of HDTV, multicast SDTV and datacast services in its transport streams.
