Focus Enhancements Shows Direct to Edit Recorder

Focus Enhancements showcases its new portable FS-5 direct to edit recorder for tapeless acquisition using DV and HDV cameras at the NAB Show. The FS-5 can log metadata wirelessly over a laptop, smartphone or almost any other WiFi capable device while it’s recording video. Users can select among the metadata formats compatible with Focus Enhancements’ ProxSys media asset management systems or various third-party nonlinear editing systems.

Other FS-5 capabilities include increased DTE file format support for MXF HDV 720p30 and 1080i; 50/60 support for Avid NLE systems; 50 percent weight reduction and a 60 percent size reduction compared to the entry-level FS-4 model; rugged and lightweight 1.8-inch disk drive using the UDF file format; low-power and fan-less design with a three-hour record-time supported by a removable Li-Ion battery pack; new user interface and menu system with scroll wheel and 320x240 color backlit LCD display; USB 2.0 interface for computer mounting and connection of accessories; wired or optional wireless network capabilities.

The FS-5 is compatible with most HDV and DV camcorders and editing software. The DTE video recording technology converts the output from camcorders or VTRs to a NLE format and it records to disk via FireWire. By combining DTE with caching and disk recording, camcorders paired with Focus Enhancements DTE recorders helps ensure that shots are captured and critical footage is ready to edit instantly.

A 100 GB version of FS-5 is expected to be available in summer 2008.

Focus Enhancements is at Booth SL2605.
