Daystar TV upgrades production facilities with QuStream routing

Daystar TV has placed a $6 million order for QuStream technology and systems for its new mobile production truck and studio.

The order includes a PESA Cheetah DRS audio router and Cheetah video router for the studio, as well as a second Cheetah DRS audio router and Cheetah video router for its new SDI mobile production truck. The routers for the production truck include CWDM fiber connectivity to allow quick and easy connectivity between the production truck and the studio.

Steve McNeal, director of engineering for Daystar, explained that the Cheetah DRS system was chosen because of the flexibility it offers to place input or output frames where the sources and destinations are and its ability to interconnect to each other with one Cat5 cable.

The Cheetah 512 x 512 Router in the studio will be connected to a 128 x 128 router in the remote truck by fiber when it is back at the station, enabling the console in the truck to see every input in the studio and be available as a second control room for emergency backup.

A Cheetah 128 x 128 SDI router was chosen for Daystar’s remote truck because the studio already has a 512 x 512 SDI router and PESA offered an internal fiber interconnect between the two routers.
