Television technology suppliers Minerva Networks, Kasenna and Amino Communications collectively debuted the NetVision platform, a scalable system for the delivery of interactive television services over broadband networks. NetVision features the required components for broadband television delivery, such as service management software (middleware), video management and delivery software, client software and a set-top box. The back-office management software (Minerva iTVManager) and the video management and delivery software (Kasenna MediaBase XMP) run on Linux servers
The platform is optimized for delivery of television over telephone networks, and supports applications and services, such as live TV, VOD, NVOD, SVOD, pay-per-view, caller ID and e-mail. The companies are further collaborating to add time-shifted TV and PVR features.
In other IP news, Broadstream also debuted its IP TV Transport network and content delivery service, jointly developed by equipment manufacturers and service providers, including Tandberg Television and Skystream Networks. The platform enables telcos to offer a variety of network and local channels, as well as pay-per-view and video-on-demand programming over an all-digital IP network. It centralizes real-time encoding and IP encapsulation of programmer content, and is suitable for distribution via xDSL, fiber or wireless networks.
