RM Dual-Interface LCD Monitoring Series

At the InfoComm 09 Show, Wohler will demonstrate three new products in the RM LCD video monitoring series. The new RM-2443W-2HD is 2RU in height, incorporates four widescreen LCDs that measure 4.3 inches in size, and features 480x270 resolution with 16.7 million colors. The RM-3270W-2HD is a 3RU system featuring two 7-inch widescreen LCDs, each with 800x480 resolution and 16.7 million colors. The RM-4290W-2HD measures 4RU in height and incorporates two 9-inch widescreen LCDs with 800x480 resolution and 16.2 million colors.

Ideal for use in mobile trucks, news and transmission control rooms, and duplication and post-production facilities, each new RM series dual-interface LCD rack includes two auto-sensing HD/SD-SDI and analog composite inputs with support for embedded audio, eight-channel audio meters (VU and PPM), and display features including ANC time code, in-monitor UMD, and tri-color tally with interfaces to TSL and IMAGE VIDEO systems, H/V delay, underscan, safe area markers, and aspect ratio and blue-only support. In addition to two-channel analog audio support, the racks provide one-channel-pair audio monitoring via headphone jack or built-in speaker. By Q3 of 2009, all three of the new dual input monitors will be available with an on-screen waveform display.

AMP1-E16-3G/AMP1-16-3G 16-Channel Multirate SDI Audio Monitors With Dolby® Capability

With dual selectable SD/HD/3Gbps inputs, the AMP1-E16-3G and AMP1-16-3G are Wohler's first 1RU 16-channel 3Gbps audio/video monitors. They also serve as the company's first 1RU audio monitors with Dolby® E and Dolby Digital Plus upgrade capability.

The straightforward control interface and overall look and feel of each unit mirrors that of Wohler's new AMP2-16-3G 16-channel audio monitor. Like the AMP2-16-3G, the new AMP1-E16-3G and AMP1-16-3G provide monitoring for up to 16 channels of embedded audio within a single multirate SDI signal, thus serving as an ideal solution for complex multichannel and surround applications in DTV production and transmission. Two of the three LCD screens can monitor 16 channels of audio simultaneously with flexible options for high-resolution 180-segment audio metering while the third LCD screen may display video or data. The screens also support the systems' intuitive and easy-to-use interface for setup and configuration of monitor features. Integrated loudness measurement and dialnorm data are displayed on the monitor's LCD screen to alert the operator if signals fall out of compliance with ITU-1770/1771 standards.

The fully digital system architecture of the AMP1-E16-3G and AMP1-16-3G features multiple high-fidelity class-D amplifiers for absolute reproduction of the embedded signal. Flexible assignment of directional signals allows the operator to configure the monitor to the specific needs of a production. Likewise, user-selectable metering functions and eight user-defined presets provide speedy configuration of the monitor to meet various operational requirements.

AMP2-16-3G 16 Channel 3Gbps Audio Monitor

Just as the AMP2-16MSDI™ was introduced to future-proof broadcasters for 16 channels of audio, this latest model addresses broadcasters' migration to HD and their ability to handle higher-capacity 3Gbps video transport infrastructures. The new monitor provides simultaneous display for up to 16 channels of embedded audio within a single multirate 3Gbps signal. Built on a fully digital system architecture featuring multiple high-fidelity class-D amplifiers, the AMP2-16-3G provides unsurpassed near-field monitoring for any mix of stereo and mono sources in a compact 2RU design. The monitor includes demuxed outputs of eight AES pairs on BNC connectors as well as providing a reclocked loop output of the 3Gbps signal.

The monitor's high-resolution LCD display boasts colorful 210-segment high-resolution bar graph level meters. Colors and settings for scale and range are user-selectable along with several predefined scales and ballistics including Audio Engineering Society (AES), BBC, and Nordic. Each displayed meter set clearly indicates the phase for stereo sources prior to output on the speakers. The AMP2-16-3G audio monitor also addresses key issues in DTV audio delivery, providing measurement of program loudness in adherence with ITU-1770/1771, which is displayed prominently on the unit's LCD status screen.

The AMP2-16-3G is also available with AES and Dolby® E options.

Dual-Channel HD/SD-SDI Closed-Caption Encoder With EIA-608/EIA-708 Support

At the InfoComm 09 Show, Wohler will highlight the company's HDCC-200A HD/SD-SDI dual-channel, closed-caption encoder/decoder bridge, now available with support for the U.S. subtitling standard (EIA-608/EIA-708), as well as the OP47 standard being adopted around the world. Occupying just one card slot, this compact modular solution simplifies closed-caption encoding of two independent SD and/or HD sources to bring greater convenience and flexibility to digital and multiformat broadcast and production workflows.

The HDCC-200A module encodes closed-caption data into SD Line 21 (EIA-608/NTSC) or directly into the DTVCC transport stream (EIA-708/ATSC), encoding two independent sources with unique closed-caption data, or when the signal output is intended for use in different distribution, encoding two independent sources with identical data. Each of the card's channels has a "clean" output and a captioned output with a burnt-in, closed-caption display that enables easy monitoring. The card automatically formats captioning data for insertion into the HD VANC space and simultaneously converts WSS and GPI data for subsequent insertion into HD VANC, which in turn allows that data to be recorded on an HD storage device or distributed via the facility's digital video distribution network. In decoding mode, the HDCC-200A converts HD VANC data back for the SD-SDI output stream.

The card is available in two sizes to fit either the 3RU Eurocard frame or the 2RU Ross Video openGear frame. Additionally, a separate interface will allow the HDCC200A to be used in existing Evertz® frames without further modification to the frame.

RM LCD Video Monitoring Series

Packed with functionality but priced affordably, Wohler's RM series of HD monitor packs are ideal for video and audio confidence monitoring in mobile trucks, news and transmission control rooms, and duplication and post-production facilities. Each screen can display eight channels of VU over PPM audio level meters and also features UMD, safe areas, frame and crop marks, and built-in color bars. The RM HD units also provide an active loop-through output for each SDI input. Additionally, all settings are accessible from front panel controls and the RM's intuitive on-screen menu. As a fully inclusive solution, each model is designed for high-resolution HD imaging and features NTSC and PAL autosensing built into the units, which accept two composite video inputs per screen on the same BNC used for HD/SD-SDI.

Additional features include a versatile chassis in which the LCDs may be rotated ±55 degrees in the vertical plane to provide optimum viewing angles. Red/green/yellow tally, as well as the in-screen UMD, can be interfaced to most tally systems.

Touch-it™ Digital Multichannel Video Monitor

Wohler's new Touch-it™ Digital offers unique multichannel video monitoring functionality in a smart, affordable design. The 3RU system features dual 7-inch high-resolution color LCD displays. The left monitor is a touch screen that displays from four to 16 thumbnail images. When one of these images is touched, that video source appears on the right monitor at full size and its HD/SD-SDI source signal is sent to an unbalanced output and to a VGA output for monitoring on an external display. The Touch-it Digital accepts and switches sixteen standard HD/SD-SDI video inputs, passing along any embedded audio. When combined with a Wohler E-Frame, closed-captioning, and logo keyer E-Cards, the Touch-it Digital serves as an elegant and cost-effective master control system.
