RTS Intercom & EVI Audio Products Integral to Olympics

Systems from EVI Audio will ensure flawless sound reinforcement and signal transmission at this year's Olympic Games – and not only in the competition venues: wherever their interest takes them in Beijing, international visitors will discover that the organizers have opted for systems from EVI Audio

When tens of thousands of athletes, officials and spectators begin arriving at Beijing Capital International Airport for the 2008 Olympic Games, a colossal engineering and architectural marvel will await them: Terminal 3 of the gigantic airport, which was officially opened in February 2008, is among star architect Sir Norman Foster's most spectacular creations. Equal in size to 170 football fields added together, the new terminal is capable of handling up to 64 million passengers per year. In this logistical wonderland, communications naturally play a decisive role. That's why the planners opted for the reliability and optimal intelligibility provided by Electro-Voice loudspeaker systems – among them, the models ZX1i and Xi-1122.

The Olympics are traditionally one of the TV highlights of the year, so the quality and reliability of signal transmission is also of crucial importance. For this reason, Chinese broadcasting giant CCTV was equally reluctant to take chances, opting for communications systems from RTS Intercom to ensure that sound and images from the Games reach the waiting millions. RTS Intercom components—including ADAM and Cronus matrices linked to over sixty KP-32 and KP-12LK keypanels—form the nerve center of several of the company's outside broadcast vehicles. In the area of wireless communication, too, Telex RadioCom BTR-700 and TR-700 systems will be in action throughout the event.

Systems from EVI Audio are setting the tone at the competition venues as well. The PROCON Group, which was responsible for equipping the stadiums and other arenas for the Games, invested in over 400 DYNACORD power amplifiers and 33 Klark Teknik Square One splitters for the Games. In Beijing's Shooting Gymnasium, too, a variety of Electro-Voice loudspeaker systems and microphones, communications and radio systems from TELEX/RTS, and DYNACORD CMS Series mixing consoles are on hand to show the competitors what accuracy means in the context of acoustics.

Even in the Training Gymnasium at Beijing's Olympic center, TELEX wireless systems and Electro-Voice microphones have a part to play in ensuring the seamless flow of information between athletes and organizers.

And as at every Olympic Games of the modern era, this year's hosts have prepared a lavish fringe programme to keep guests entertained. In the Olympic Culture Centre, the Chinese have invested in Midas mixing consoles and Electro-Voice microphones to ensure outstanding audio quality.

So before the opening ceremony for the 2008 Games is even underway, EVI Audio has already proved itself an outstanding Olympian. Whatever the discipline and whatever the venue, the flow of signals, the flow of information and even the flow of visitors—from their arrival at Terminal 3 to their departure when the great jamboree is over—are in capable hands: those of EVI Audio.
