WHYY deploys Telecast Fiber CopperHead transceivers
WHYY has chosen Telecast Fiber Systems' CopperHead line of fiber-optic video systems as part of its transition to HDTV content production.
The CopperHead G2 2400 camera-mounted transceivers deliver full studio capabilities to new HD camcorders installed in WHYY's studios in Philadelphia and Wilmington, DE, and also facilitate mobile production.
As WHYY planned its transition to HDTV, the station chose to upgrade its two studios with Sony PDW700 XDCAM HD camcorders. Each studio is equipped with three of the camcorders outfitted with a CopperHead G2 2400. The CopperHead multiplexes all of the camera's output and input signals onto a single, durable, lightweight fiber-optic cable. In addition, WHYY has installed a CopperHead control unit in its Y-Arts mobile production van, which enables any of the Philadelphia camcorders to be taken into the field for multicamera, mobile production operations.
