PBS affiliate WHRO-TV has selected Miranda's Master Control Glass Cockpit multichannel switching, branding, and monitoring system for its new DTV broadcast facility in Norfolk, Va.
The station’s HD/SD-capable master control environment originates up to 12 server-based, automated program channels, including a five-channel HD/SD ATSC multiplex.
WHRO-TV will broadcast both HD and SD digital television as a regular part of its broadcast schedule. Systems integrator Communications Engineering Design (CEI) of Newington, Va., installed and implemented the program.
Miranda's “Glass Cockpit” is designed to enhance operator control and efficiency in a multichannel environment. The station said the installation was integral in giving it the capability to provide HD television during prime time hours, and multiple SD and datacasting services for targeted audiences during the rest of the day.
Master control and branding are handled by the Oxtel Series Presmaster master control switcher panel and the Imagestore 2 processor, which integrates source switching, character generation, audio/over storage, and still/graphics storage into a single box. Its own dedicated Imagestore processor, controlled by automation and the Presmaster panel, supports each DTV channel.
