WDAY-TV Equips ENG Unit with 33 JVC HD Units
WDAY-TV in Fargo, N.D. has purchased no less than 18 GY-HD100U Pro HD cameras and 15 BR-HD50U recorders from JVC for the station's ENG news and sports productions. The JVC camera records in SD and HD, which the broadcaster said suits its plans for a gradual transition to an all-HD shop.
WDAY-TV (Nielsen DMA #118) will capture footage from its GY-HD100U units using portable FS-4 recorders from Focus Enhancements as its main acquisition format. Footage will be directly transferred from the hard drive into the station's Final Cut Pro editing systems. As a backup, the station said in a statement, WDAY-TV also will record on tape and be able to access that footage using the BR-HD50U recorder/players to transfer video-audio into its editing system.
As part of the huge equipment deal, JVC conducted a three-day training seminar at WDAY-TV for about 20 videographers, reporters and engineers to help familiarize the crew with its new ENG infrastructure.
