Vietnam: VTC Taps Tandberg for DBS, OTA

Vietnam Multimedia Corporation (VTC) has tapped Tandberg Television to provide encoding, multiplexing and modulation for 10 HD and 32 SD channels that will be simultaneously played out via both DBS and digital terrestrial networks.

Tandberg said the Vietnamese broadcaster/platform operator plans to combine MPEG-2 SD and MPEG-4 AVC HD channels in a single multiplexer transport stream. (The content will be modulated using DVB-S2 for satellite and DVB-T for digital over-the-air).

VTC is the first pay TV operator in Vietnam to provide MPEG-4 AVC HD, according to Tandberg, a subsidiary of the Ericsson Group.

Tandberg said in a statement that with the VTC scheme underway, it believes “digital terrestrial television is now established in the [Vietnamese] market.”
