TVB Tech Alert: Fan-free, HD-capable Smartbook Revealed

TAIPEI: Computer notebook maker ASUS is circulating a smartbook prototype that runs on Android, Google’s operating system designed for unlicensed devices. The new Asus Eee PC prototype emerged as the Computex computer gets under way in Taiwan. Engadget says the new Eee sports a 1 GHz Snapdragon chipset, the configuration from Qualcomm that runs 30 percent faster and 30 percent more efficiently than typical notebook chipsets. It also supports hi-def video recording and playback, among a myriad of other functions.

Snapdragon allows the new Eee to run without a fan, saving battery life and power consumption. Engadget has video of the Eee in action.
