Turner Makes Major Snell & Wilcox Purchase for New Facility

Turner Entertainment Group recently bought more than 5,000 modules from Snell & Wilcox's IQ Modular line of intelligent products to serve as the infrastructure for broadcast operations at Turner's new broadcast facility in Atlanta. The network also purchased a RollCall Network Management System for remote monitoring and control of the modules. According to Turner, this will create the largest broadcast system in the world with integrated monitoring and control capability.

The new facility will allow Turner to create an efficient broadcast operation for feeding input material to its 18 television networks from a centralized storage system, which is connected through the infrastructure of the IQ Modular line. The IQ Modular products encompass a range of broadcast applications, including analog and digital audio and video distribution, reclocking, video decoding and encoding and others.

Turner will use the RollCall network to control and monitor the IQ Modular infrastructure. Users will be able to monitor the system for the 18 networks from one PC. Turner also cited cost of ownership, flexibility and the high quality of the products as factors in the purchase.
