ToolsOnAir LiveCut saves productions time and money

Vienna, Austria-based software provider ToolsOnAir is introducing a tapeless multicamera workflow system for daily soap productions and near-live events at NAB 2009. The new LiveCut package will reduce the overall production time of multicamera productions by eliminating the time-consuming ingest process associated with tape-based workflows.

While recording up to 16 cameras simultaneously, LiveCut records a rough edit decision list (EDL) directly out of the production switcher. This is then processed into a multiclip sequence in Final Cut Pro, synchronized, tracklayed and is ready for review and post production in a matter of minutes.

Directors can take notes and set markers during the recording, as well as select good takes, and then these can be immediately displayed in Final Cut Pro, making it easy for editors to continue with post production.

Post-production supervisor Christof Halasz, who developed the unique software, said productions using LiveCut save valuable time that is otherwise wasted on capturing tapes, logging, searching for footage or other tedious manual tasks. Together with Telestream’s Pipeline ingest solution, LiveCut offers a compact, low-cost, low-power solution for use in OB vans.
