Time Warner Launches TNT HD

TNT HD officially launches May 21 with hi-def coverage of the first NBA Western Conference Finals.

As Time Warner's first 24/7 HD network, TNT HD will offer a broad range of programming in HD, including series, sports, movies and TNT Originals. The east coast feed of the network will be shown in 1080i with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. All content will be in either native HD or upconverted to HD, including commercials. TNT says it will present all of its programming, including promotional content and commercials in 16:9 "giving viewers a consistent viewing experience."

Time Warner Cable is the first major MSO to announce carriage of TNT HD but a TNT spokesperson said other carriage deals will be announced in the weeks to come. The second largest cable provider in the U.S., TWC has approximately 10.9 million subscribers in 27 states and approximately 2.5 million digital cable subscribers.
