The Systems Group helps public stations in Puerto Rico
By TVTechnology published
Public station WIPR-TV in Puerto Rico has tapped the expertise of system integrators, The Systems Group (TSG, located in Hoboken, N.J.), to construct the first public broadcast station in Puerto Rico capable of producing and broadcasting standard definition digital and HD programming. TSG is providing technical design and systems integration consulting to the project. Sister public station WIPM-TV in Mayaguez will also share the 15,000 sq. ft. facility.
The completed WIPR/WIPM project will consist of four production studios, four related control rooms and two master control rooms. The facility will broadcast four channels: a main standard definition feed, a HD channel (including the 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio) and two channels that will be dedicated to educational and government-related programming.
In addition to converting its facilities to a serial digital infrastructure, WIPR-TV is replacing its existing analog videotape equipment with a highly automated server-based system, which will feature a newsroom nonlinear editing system, multi-channel master control platform and a DVD-based archive.
TSG is also supporting the installation of the mechanical and electrical systems, working closely with architectural firm Janson Design Group.
