The Press Association selects Dalet NewsPro for production platform

The Press Association, the national news agency for the UK and Ireland, has selected Dalet NewsPro as a digital production platform to power its growing range of video and multimedia products.

The Press Association is using its Dalet system to produce video content for broadcast and digital markets. The Dalet NewsPro installation provides editing and media management features to optimize content aggregation, production and distribution.

The Press Association was looking for a system that would streamline its editorial and video production processes in the newsroom as well as integrate with other systems, said Paul Berman, IT development director at The Press Association. Among the third-party applications and systems integrated with the Dalet system is Marquis Medway, which is used for media transfers between NetApp and EditShare storage systems and to transfer media to a range of transcoding engines.

Journalists in the field upload compressed video files back to headquarters where the PA Video Hub, an in-house application, receives the assets. A Dalet Media Gateway automatically imports packages and metadata into the Dalet content catalog.

All media is stored on centralized production storage and is immediately available to all Dalet workstations for searching, browsing, logging and editing. Dalet application servers render finished items offline and generate proxy versions for remote browsing.

Integration with Marquis Medway ensures that shot selections made by journalists using Dalet NewsPro are exported to an EditShare-based workgroup of Avid editors. Final packages are moved back to the main NetApp production storage, referenced by Dalet NewsPro and submitted for approval. Distribution of video packages and of associated audio bytes and stills is ensured by the PA Video Hub system.
