TANDBERG TV targets cable VOD market with C-COR

TANDBERG Television has signed an agreement with C-COR.net Corp., a global provider of broadband communications products, software systems and services, to help cable operators easily and cost-effectively deploy video on demand (VOD) services. The agreement will see C-COR integrate and market TANDBERG's high-density Edge QAM technology together with C-COR's IP network infrastructure technologies to provide customers with a reliable, end-to-end solution for content on demand.

Eric Cooney, CEO of TANDBERG Television, said the market for VOD has grown dramatically in recent years, with about five million subscribers worldwide currently using such services to watch movies and packaged premium programming. Analysts are predicting that the worldwide VOD market will more than double in the next three years.

TANDBERG Television’s Edge QAM technology leverages the company’s extensive video delivery expertise and will be marketed in the Americas by C-COR under the brand name EdgeMax 5500. It provides the bridge between C-COR's digital IP transport solutions in the core network and its optical and RF products in the HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coax) plant. The EdgeMax 5500 also takes advantage of TANDBERG Television’s expertise in MPEG-2 processing, video on demand and advanced digital modulation.

The EdgeMax 5500 offers high density and combines multiplexing, QAM modulation and UHF upconversion for up to 24 QAM channels in a compact 1RU.
