Sierra Video offers multiformat compact routing

Designed to meet the needs of HD facilities and those in the transition process where continuous operation is essential, Sierra Video Systems has begun shipping its new Ponderosa multiformat routing switcher. The HD-SDI/SDI video routing switcher has a fully modular design and includes a wide range of features tailored to applications with critical video needs.

Ponderosa's modular matrix architecture allows it to scale in increments of eight inputs and outputs each, up to 64 x 64 in a compact 4RU frame. It offers hot-swappable components, redundancy and intelligent reclocking that make it ideally suited for broadcast environments. Optional redundant control processors and power supplies are also available.

The Ponderosa is capable of handling standard serial digital video signals including SMPTE 310M, SMPTE 259M, SMPTE 344M and DVB-ASI up to 540Mb/s along with HD serial digital video signals conforming to SMPTE 292M (1.485GB/s single link). The companion Ponderosa control system can be set up for dual-link 3Gb/s operation, while the hot-swappable video I/O boards allow for on-site repair, eliminating the disruption of factory modifications.

Ponderosa connects with other Sierra Video Systems routing switchers, and analog or digital audio can be added to this system via the Yosemite line of routing switchers. The full suite of Sierra Video Systems control products is available for the Ponderosa, from Sierra's SCP line of programmable control panels to the new TyLinx Router Control Software featuring a wide range of customization options. Ponderosa offers an RS-232 and RS-422 serial interface supported by all major third-party control systems as well as a standard TCP/IP port for IP (Ethernet) control via Mac or PC.
