Seagate and AMD Demo 6 Gbps SATA

SCOTTS VALLEY, CALIF.: Seagate and Advanced Micro Devices demonstrated 6 Gbps serial ATA transfer at a conference in New Orleans, the companies said this week. Seagate, maker of hard drives, and AMD, a microprocessing concern, demoed the technology at the Everything Channel Xchange Conference.

The 6 Gbps SATA interface is the fastest yet developed for widespread transfer of content on PCs. It’s backward compatible with 3 and 1.5 Gbps SATA interfaces. Heavy-duty transfer speeds are becoming integral in handling digital video and the various elements used to enhance it.
