SeaChange Powers OCAP-based On-Demand TV

Using systems by SeaChange International, South Korean cable operator CJ CableNet has launched what it touts as the world's first OCAP-based on-demand TV service.

CJ CableNet's "Hello D" interactive service includes local weather and news, games and short message service (SMS) as well a s commerce applications, including local golf "tee times" and theater tickets. The operator's sister company, CJ media, the country's leading broadcaster, provides most of the content for "Hello D" on-demand.

Subscribers can select from movies, free programs and a "series-on-demand" options, which provides episodes of television programs.

Through its office in Asia, the SeaChange software developers created the custom OCAP-based video-on-demand applications and a user interface client to meet CJ CableNet's requirements.

SeaChange systems fulfill more than 100 million VOD demand stream requests each month, according to the company. Cablevision, Comcast and Guandong Cable (in China) are a few of its customers.
