SeaChange Extends Media Formats

In two recent announcements, SeaChange International said that it now supports Windows Media 9 and that the company has a new MXF Gateway that provides extensive interoperability for video-on-demand (VOD) and on-air servers.

With the addition of Windows Media 9, the Maynard, Mass., company can now deliver a single product that simultaneously streams video to PC and television viewers. Microsoft spokesman Jonathan Usher said that Windows Media 9 will permit SeaChange's VOD platform to deliver the media files at significantly lower bandwidth than the MPEG-2 files that are now used for VOD.

In another boost to VOD and broadcast delivery, SeaChange will extend its transcoding technologies to support interoperability between its Broadcast MediaCluster server and MXF-enabled devices. The purpose of the new MXF Gateway is to automate the interchange of media files between SeaChanges MPEG-2 servers and the emerging crop of MXF-enabled products.
