NY1 News commits to Dalet for ENG production and distribution

NY1 News, the flagship news channel for Time Warner Cable’s local news division, has implemented a tightly integrated hardware and software platform for newsgathering, production asset management and distribution based on technology from Dalet Digital Media Systems. NY1 engineering staff worked closely with Dalet to develop many production and assignment desk features to maximize its newsgathering and distribution efficiencies.

The Dalet Enterprise Edition platform provides NY1 staff with a wide variety of newsroom system functions with advanced playout automation capabilities and has helped the news outlet support its file-based production and broadcast infrastructure. The system allows NY1 to better manage content production and localized news delivery.

NY1 News is available to over 3 million cable subscribers 24 hours a day on Time Warner Cable throughout New York's five boroughs, as well as most of upstate New York and in parts of New Jersey.

Joe Truncale, vice president operations and engineering, NY1, said the system provides the company with a single software vendor solution that is guaranteed to work as a cohesive whole. “We do not have to piece together applications and live with the shortcomings of integration workarounds.”

Dalet’s unified platform provides NY1 News contextual tools for logging and searching materials, editing packages, managing rundowns, and facilitating content distribution across multiple channels and platforms, including NY1 News, NY1 Noticias, the Web site, and New York 1 on Demand.

The Dalet Enterprise Edition installation fully integrates and manages multiple Omneon ingest and playout servers, an Omneon MediaGrid shared production storage and several Chyron CG applications. Dalet also integrates Apple Final Cut Pro editing workgroups and a VCI traffic system for a contiguous system and subsystem workflow.
