Motorola to Build TVs Again

Three decades after exiting the TV manufacturing business, Motorola announced this week that it will begin building plasma and LCD TV's via a partnership with Proview International Holdings Ltd., a Hong Kong-based manufacturer of displays.

Slated for worldwide rollout later this year, the Motorola-branded sets will include LCD computer displays and LCD and plasma TVs, automotive video, as well as CD/DVD players, recorders and drives.

Proview manufactures approximately 6 million computer monitors annually, giving it about 5 percent of the world market. The company plans to set up a separate subsidiary, called "Moxell" to handle the Motorola business.
