Megahertz to supply OB, digital SNG vehicles

Cambridge-based Megahertz Broadcast Systems has secured contracts with Romanian television channel, B1 TV for an OB vehicle and BBC Technology for two digital SNG trucks.

The B1 TV vehicle, to be used for the channel’s news, sports and entertainment output, will have three operational areas, production, sound and vision. Production facilities will employ SDI video and analog audio signals and will incorporate a Snell & Wilcox Vision mixer, six Ikegami cameras along with Sony monitors and VCRs.

Based on an Iveco chassis, the vehicle will be fully air-conditioned to cope with the Romanian environment.

BBC Technology vehicles will be based on 413CDI MWB Sprinter panel vans to support local and national newsgathering in Southampton and Plymouth.

The Southampton vehicle will be fitted with a single 400 watt HPA satellite system capable of dual-carrier operation, and a 7 GHz terrestrial microwave ENG link mounted on a 12 meter pneumatic mast. The Plymouth vehicle will have a dual-channel dual-thread system with 2 x 400 watt HPAs and waveguide redundancy switching.

Both vehicles will be equipped for multi-camera live program production and three-machine tape editing. The contract calls for Megahertz to provide the satellite systems, 7 GHz link, coachwork and systems integration for both vans.
