Malayala Manorama launches news channel with Omneon Spectrum server system

Malayala Manorama, a major publishing house based in Kottayam, India, is launching a 24-hour news channel with the Omneon Spectrum server system at the core of its broadcast operations. The 16-channel Spectrum system will provide shared storage that supports the full workflow of ingest, production and playout, allowing Malayala Manorama to get its first channel to air quickly and reliably.

In making this move into the broadcast market, multimagazine publishing house Malayala Manorama is working with systems integrator Shaf Broadcast to create a scalable and reliable news playout solution for the company's new broadcast facility in Aroor.

At Malayala Manorama, the Spectrum will be integrated with Final Cut Pro systems to allow edit-in-place capability on full-resolution media. Journalists can also work with low-resolution or "browse" versions of media through their browse editor. Material can be conformed on the Omneon server system and, when complete, played out in the rolling wheel format typical of continuous news stations.
