Leitch helps Thailand broadcaster transition to digital

Thailand's largest pay television operator, United Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), has awarded Leitch a multi-million dollar contract to convert its conventional tape facility into a completely digital production and transmission operation. UBC is the first major broadcaster in Southeast Asia to adopt a total tapeless solution for its production and operations.

The solution comprises two video server systems, including seven ingest ports; 15 playout ports; 11 NewsFlash craft editors; and 25 seats of low-resolution workstations. System storage is abundant at 11.7TB central storage and 48TB nearline storage; as well as digital infrastructure and Integrator router and Leitch's Command Control System (CCS), for remote monitoring and control.

The project consists of three phases. The first phase is estimated to be complete by the end of 2003. In the first phase of the project, UBC will convert three channels - UBC Inside, UBC Asian Movies and the History Channel - to digital by gradually phasing out the current video tape recorder for both the production and transmission system.
