Inaugural: Harris Offers Multi-Day HD, 3D Virtual Views

Harris Corp. provided live digital HD camera feeds of the presidential inaugural parade route on Jan. 20, along with 3D virtual views of downtown Washington, D.C., that will remain accessible online for several more days.

The parade down Pennsylvania Avenue was captured from a camera mounted atop the JW Marriott Hotel at the corner of 14th Street NW, about a block from the White House.

Harris’ video feeds were made available to broadcasters by the National Press Club (located next to the Marriott). The cam views also were made available to the public via the Harris Web site.

The online content also includes 3D virtual “flyovers” of the National Mall and the inaugural parade route.

Its 3D “urban models” are built from ground, aerial and satellite imagery (using technology developed for the federal government) which Harris said are “geospatially accurate to within meters.”

The archived HD video of the parade also will be available online until Jan. 30 on the Harris and NPC Web sites. A technology partner of the NPC, Harris provided the HD robotic camera, a transmission server, and technical assistance for the feed, in conjunction with the NPC’s Broadcast Operations Center.
