Harris to support DTV transition at NAB

The PowerCD transmitter will be displayed at NAB with improved network control and monitoring functions.

Harris will use NAB to showcase new digital TV transmission solutions that address issues such as network integration, channel re-assignment — known as “Repack” — and ATSC redundancy.

Among its NAB products, Harris will showcase the Platinum intelligent transmitter, its first with an integrated Harris eCDi enhanced network control and monitoring system in a PowerCD transmitter.

The company will introduce new control cabinets for the Platinum CD Series of VHF transmitters. The integration of the eCDi system allows the transmitter to be added to a TV station’s network infrastructure, such as a facility-wide SNMP network, without the need for an external box.

The new control cabinet, which also houses Harris’ Apex exciter and transmitter control, is designed for simple field upgrades. Platinum users can implement analog-to-digital upgrades in the field by swapping out the older control cabinet. Users can also upgrade control cabinets in operational analog and digital models.

Harris will also show the Atlas ATSC solid-state digital transmitter — a liquid-cooled, solid-state ATSC UHF transmitter — available in five power levels from 1- to 12kW.
