Channel 4 selects Pinnacle for playout upgrade

As part of its extensive infrastructure upgrade program and to create an additional transmission suite, Channel 4 has ordered four additional MediaStream MSS-900SI servers based on the new Palladium Store 1000 from Pinnacle Systems.

The new Pinnacle servers are the latest installment of Channel 4's three-year upgrade program. The independent broadcaster now services both digital and analog DTT platforms, plus its E4 offering and three FilmFour services on DSAT.

Pinnacle's servers offer accurately timed clip playback for improved presentation of programming and increased workflow in the new tape-less environment. For FilmFour, they provide all programming, in addition to the interstitial material. The new MSS-900Sis provide the main service for Channel 4, as well as capacity for future expansion.

Seven Pinnacle servers and three StreamFactory media encoders are already installed at the broadcaster's London headquarters. It is expected to be fully operational by August 2003.
