Avid’s Kovalick Receives Sarnoff Award

Al Kovalick, enterprise product strategist at Avid, was named this year’s recipient of the David Sarnoff Medal, which was presented Thursday evening at the SMPTE Annual Tech Conference & Expo in Hollywood.

Kovalick was awarded the medal in recognition of his contributions in advancing file-based storage, playback and interchange in television production applications.

He has been involved in hybrid audio/video systems and information technology endeavors for the past 16 years, and is the author of the first book on converged A/V and IT systems, “Video Systems in an IT Environment, Second Edition: The Basics of Professional Networked Media and File-based Workflows.” He is also the author of more than 50 papers. Kovalick was awarded a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley, and took an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at San Jose State University.
