AES Convention to highlight Platinum Panels

At the upcoming AES Convention in San Francisco, the traditional Platinum Panels will again offer a stellar series. Platinum Events Chairman Paul Verna, co-author of “The Encyclopedia of Record Producers,” has coordinated a trio of outstanding Platinum Panels, to take place Oct. 2-5.

This year’s Platinum series of panels includes:

  • Platinum Producers and Engineers, moderated by Paul Verna. Panelists will include studio pros from a variety of backgrounds: A&R — Tony Berg (Aimee Mann, Beck, Air Supply); performing — Stephan Jenkins (Third Eye Blind); engineering — Joe Chiccarelli (U2, Frank Zappa, Elton John); producing — Chris Lord-Alge (James Brown, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, Madonna); and classical music — David V.R. Bowles, engineer/producer of more than 50 top classical recordings.
  • Platinum Road Warriors, moderated by Clive Young, author of “Crank It Up: Live Sound Secrets of the Top Tour Engineers.” An all-star panel will discuss subjects ranging from gear to gossip in what promises to be an insightful, amusing and enlightening session. Ample time will be provided for an audience Q&A session.
  • The Platinum Mastering Panel, moderated by multi-Grammy winning mastering engineer Bob Ludwig. Panelists will include Bernie Grundman, Scott Hull, Herb Powers Jr. and Doug Sax, and will discuss the craft of mastering, including a Q&A addressing both audience questions and those submitted in advance by students at recording colleges.
