Advanced Broadcast Solutions hosts audio education tour

Looking to give the subject of audio broadcasting techniques their due, systems integrator Advanced Broadcast Solutions (ABS) is hosting a series of free educational sessions this month at broadcast stations in Oregon and Washington. Mark Siegel, president of ABS, said that with recent advancements in digital technology, audio has also become more complicated than ever.

Sponsored by Dolby, Genelec, Linear Acoustic, Sennheiser and Yamaha, the “Understanding the Bastard Child of Broadcast” tour kicks off July 20 at Oregon Public Broadcasting in Portland, with stops at five other television stations. Presentations will begin at 10 a.m. and be repeated at 2 p.m. at all locations.

The tour will spotlight various professional audio production and broadcast issues and address the changing professional audio landscape.

The educational sessions will provide instruction on 5.1 monitoring, mixing and encoding, and creating the highest audio quality in facilities. Additional topics will include dialnorm and loudness issues, as well as the recent developments in the wireless spectrum. Program content is designed for broadcasters, but all video professionals are invited to attend.

The ABS tour schedule will travel to: Oregon Public Broadcasting, Portland, OR, (July 20); KEZI, Eugene, OR , (July 21); KOBI, Medford, OR, (July 22); KSPS, Spokane, WA, (July 24); KCTS, Seattle (July 27) and KBTC, Tacoma, WA, (July 28).
