ABC, ESPN to use broadcast, multimedia resources for World Cup

Soccer may not be as popular in the United States as it is throughout the rest of the world, but you wouldn’t know it by extensive coverage the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany will receive via the extensive distribution channels and multimedia resources of ESPN and ABC Sports.

The tournament, which begins today and runs through July 9, will be covered on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic, ESPN International as well as via ESPN.com, ESPN360, Mobile ESPN and ESPN Deportes.

All matches of the 2006 FIFA World Cup will be covered live and made available in high definition as will be all “World Cup Live” daily studio programs. ESPN360 will provide online simultaneous coverage of 52 matches live.

ABC Sports will present 12 live matches, including the concluding title match July 9.
