Tandberg to Launch TV over IP Package at NAB

Tandberg Television is debuting its open iTTV concept for interactive TV delivery over telco at NAB2003. The company will demonstrate a head-end package that targets telcos and other non-traditional broadcasters with a "triple play" service of telephony, high-speed Internet and broadcast television over one network as well as VOD.

The package includes Tandberg Television MPEG-2 encoders, IP streamers, transport system descramblers, integrated receivers/decoders and systems integration services. Third-party set-top boxes, VOD servers and middleware for EPG's, channel navigation and other additional services are also supported.

Already the "triple play" system has been deployed by FastWeb, Italy's largest telecommunications company and Lyse, a power utility company offering video, voice and data via FTTH. Companies that deploy its iTTV delivery platforms receive higher picture quality at lower bit-rates with its encoding systems and straight or "bit-rate changed" digital turnaround using MPEG-2 compression, according to Tandberg Television.
