SoundField SPS200 Mic on Display at IBC

SoundField will show its finished SPS200 A-format microphone at IBC2008. The SoundField SPS200 microphone’s tetrahedral capsule array generates a four-channel signal that provides users with a wide range of device parameter control.

The microphone’s pickup pattern and apparent orientation with respect to the sound source can be changed without physically relocating the mic itself. Also, the captured audio format—mono, stereo, or surround—may be altered after the performance if necessary without introducing phase artifacts prevalent in some multimic setups.

The four-channel stream of the SPS200 mic is decoded via a software plug-in, which performs the hardware decoding process necessary with earlier SoundField multichannel mics. The system allows users to select from six different types of surround audio.

SoundField will be at Stand 8.E85.
