Shure is beginning to port members of its PG line of mics over to USB. First are the PG27USB and PG42USB side address cardioid condenser mics.
The USB versions of both microphones include integrated preamps, gain control, zero latency monitoring (via 1/8-inch/3.5 mm headphone jack) and a monitor mix control for blending mic and playback audio. Naturally, the USB is plug-and-play.
To satisfy the loud crowd, the PG27USB has a 20 dB pad while the PG42USB has a 15 dB pad.
Also on Shure’s USB playlist is the X2U XLR-to-USB adapter. The X2U is a plug-on adapter that is designed to give standard phantom powered mics a USB output. The X2U distributes 48 V phantom power and like the new PG USBs features an integrated preamp, microphone gain control, zero latency monitoring (via 1/8-inch/3.5 mm headphone jack) and a monitor mix control for blending mic and playback audio.
On the more traditional front, Shure is adding members to its SM line of microphones. The SM27 is a side address cardioid large diaphragm condenser mic. Features include a three-position low frequency (float, –18 dB @ 80 Hz and –6 dB @ 115 Hz) and a 15 dB pad. The SM137 is a slender “probe” style mic cardioid condenser. It has a 15 dB pad. Both are standard 48 V phantom powered.
