Session to explore the future of entertainment at IBC2005

On Saturday, Sept. 10, IBC2005 will present “Towards the Holodeck – How close are we to immersive interactive television?” The session, chaired by Andy Finney, British Interactive Media Association/ATSF in the UK, will explore what the shape of the future of entertainment might be like without today’s technological restraints.

During the session experts will discuss what would be needed to progress towards a fully interactive immersive television experience. Requirements are not simply confined to hardware solutions such as 3-D capture and display, but also include software advancements that must facilitate intelligent dramatic character objects and ways to achieve dynamic surprises.

Participants will include Marc Price of BBC Research and Development; Ralf Schafer, Fraunhofer-Institute for Telecommunications Heinrich-Hertz-Institut; Carmen Mac Williams of NOMADS Lab in Germany; and Marc Cavazza of the University of Teeside in the United Kingdom.
