News 12 Long Island transports programming with T-VIPS gateway

News 12 Long Island, a 24-hour local news service, has acquired a pair of T-VIPS TVG415 video gateways to transport programming to its studios in Woodbury, NY, after a successful trial of the technology.

News 12 Long Island is part of News 12 Networks. Owned and operated by Cablevision System, News 12 Networks consists of seven individual local news channels serving the areas of Long Island, New Jersey, southwestern Connecticut, Westchester County, the Hudson Valley, Brooklyn and the Bronx. News 12 Networks currently reaches nearly 3.8 million households in the New York market.

News 12 Long Island, which reaches 800,000 households in the area, will use the TVG415s to enable IP transmission to its Woodbury sites over a Cablevision Optimum Lightpath Metro Ethernet circuit. According to News 12 Long Island, bandwidth efficiency, ease of use and a simple upgrade path to HD influenced the decision to acquire the technology.

The TVG415 transports SDI over IP networks. Its JPEG2000 compression enables the efficient transmission of TV signals over Ethernet and ASI links.
