Motorola's Broadband Communications Division has rolled out the new DCT1700, a digital set-top that carries the same interactive digital features as its predecessor, the DCT2000, but has simpler features designed to reduce costs.
The DCT1700 still features VOD, pay-per-view and an electronic program guide, but the set-top maker hopes that the cheaper price will expand its digital cable market presence.
Cable provider Insight Communications plans to offer the DCT1700 to its digital cable customers. Motorola is targeting the set-top to the North American and Latin American markets and will ship the DCT1700 by the end of 2002.
