Lawo debuts new mc²56 production console at NAB2008

At NAB2008 in Las Vegas, Lawo presented the mc²56, a full-featured, more compact member of the mc² series. Designed for use in OB trucks and small-to-medium studios, the new mc²56 offers full compatibility with the larger mc² models in a reduced surface with compact dimensions.

Designed with Lawo’s mc² technology, the mc²56 offers the Lawo HD core with up to 512 DSP channels, 144 summing buses and a routing capacity of up to 8192 crosspoints. The complete functionality of the mc² series is available — including the transfer of snapshots within the mc² family as well as dynamic automation and networking with other Lawo products. Signal processing can be changed on the fly from mono to stereo to surround.

The Lawo mc²56 offers innovation in its newly designed control surface, which offers a mix of hardware controls and touch-screen operation. The interface design offers direct access to all essential operating elements, while functions that are used more rarely, such as setup configuration, are accessed via the TFT touchscreen GUI. This allows for easy operation and a steep learning curve. In addition, the physical design has achieved a reduction of fader width to 30mm for greater space efficiency. Every 16-fader bay offers fully featured metering on the high-resolution TFT. The mc²56 also supports Lawo’s new VST plug-in integration.

Lawo’s reputation for modularity is reflected in the mc²56 with options for a second fader row and the insertion of PPMs. With frame sizes from 32 to 80 faders and special flightcase versions, the new console may be adapted to a wide range of applications.
