Home videos collecting dust on the shelf can now be converted to digital and shared via the Internet with Home VOD.

HVOD is a technology produced by Highland Park, Ill-based Digital Silo that incorporates the functionality of VOD for home videos.

The one-year-old company offers a service that converts files from Betamax, VHS, Hi8, DV and DVD to digital for sending over a broadband connection. Family and friends can view the video with Windows Media Player, Real Media Player, QuickTime, or Java Media player. Users can download and store HVOD files on their Windows-based home computers for viewing and editing.
