Dielectric’s R&D director picks signals wireless focus

Wireless industry veteran Akin Akinniyi was tapped by Dielectric Communications as its senior director of research and development for the broadcast antenna company's wireless communications division. Akinniyi more than 18 years of experience and expertise in wireless telecommunications, critical as Dielectric develops and manufactures new product lines for wireless transmission.

What he also brings is an "outside-the-box," socially conscious perspective to telecommunications, gained from his experience deploying technology in the developing world. In 2007, Akinniyi founded Novus Broadband to help underdeveloped countries, particularly in Africa, use local investment to build telecommunications infrastructure needed for economic development — starting with wireless broadband. In Nigeria, Novus is currently deploying a WiMax network and exploring community-based approaches to solar energy production.

He started his career at Motorola, designing base station transceivers, and has led mobile handset and chipset development teams at NEC and Phillips Semiconductors. Holding a master's degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Wisconsin, he earned both a master's degree in mathematics and a doctorate in electrical engineering from Purdue University.
