Genesis Networks Delivers Baseball Season Openers via Fiber Optics From Tokyo Dome

MLB Advanced Media Uses Genesis Networks Infrastructure to Bring Opening Games to Online Fans Worldwide

NEW YORK -- April 4, 2008 -- When the Boston Red Sox and the Oakland A‘s kicked off the 2008 Major League Baseball season in the Tokyo Dome last week, fans in the New England area enjoyed the action in high definition via an advanced fiber optic infrastructure provided by Genesis Networks. The same fiber network delivered the games online to viewers worldwide via MLB.com, the official Web site of Major League Baseball.

Genesis Networks provided more than 32 hours of networking services to MLB Advanced Media for delivery of news feeds, as well as complete live coverage of the season openers and exhibition games to MLB.com. Genesis delivered the high-quality video signal to MLB Advanced Media headquarters in New York City, where it was streamed directly onto the MLB.com site.

“We continuously work to provide a wide array of high-quality video content to meet the varying needs of baseball fans of all ages. As the season opener approached, we needed a reliable and cost-effective method for bringing over exclusive video from Japan, including live broadcasts of the games,” said Joe Inzerillo, senior vice president of multimedia, MLB.com. “Genesis Networks‘ expertise and technology excellence allowed us to achieve our goals efficiently and effectively for baseball fans around the globe.”

“We are grateful to MLB Advanced Media for giving us the opportunity to provide global networking services for such a prestigious international event; in fact, this is only the third time U.S. teams have officially opened the baseball season from the Tokyo Dome. This is further evidence that Genesis Networks is rapidly becoming the premier global sports, news, and entertainment provider via fiber optics,” said Paul Dujardin, president and CEO, Genesis Networks. “In meeting the needs of MLB Advanced Media, we‘ve shown the versatility of fiber for occasional-use services, as well as its superiority over satellite for transporting high-quality video signals over long distances.”
