Algolith Introduces Four New Additions to Algogear Series Product Line

New Feature-Rich Upconverters and Frame Synchronizers Bring Additional Flexibility and Functionality to Series

Montreal, Canada, April 14, 2008-- Algolith Inc., a leading provider of advanced image processing solutions, has expanded its Algogear™ series with the introduction of four new products at the 2008 NAB Show taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, April 14 to 17 (Booth N3414). Leveraging the value and versatility of Algolith‘s core Intellectual Property (IP), the new Algogear products bring advanced Upconversion and Frame Synchronization capabilities, to address the evolving needs of broadcast, cable, IPTV and satellite providers.

The Algogear series will now comprise high-definition Upconversion cards (XVC-1001-UC and XVC-1001-UC-BF-SA), multi-definition Frame Synchronization cards (FRS-1002-MD and FRS-1002-MD-LG-PA), as well as the existing standard and high-definition Video Noise Reduction cards (VNR-1000-SD and VNR-1000-HD).

High-Quality SD to HD Upconversion

The Algogear Upconverter cards (XVC-1001-UC and XVC-1001-UC-BF-SA) provide high quality conversion from SD to HD video formats. The cards support embedded audio 16 channels (4 groups), closed caption (CC) and time code information. The XVC-1001-UC-BF-SA model provides background fill capabilities and user-adjustable safe area generation. The XVC-1001-UC and XVC-1001-UC-BF-SA feature Algolith‘s proprietary, market-proven IP technology for de-interlacing, cadence correction and content adaptive scaling.

Full-Featured Frame Synchronization

The Frame Synchronizer cards (FRS-1002-MD and FRS-1002-MD-LG-PA) are designed for re-timing applications in both SD and HD SDI environments on up to two channels. Additional delay can be added to the synchronizing process in pixel, line or frame increments, with up to 11 additional frames of delay in HD. The Frame Synchronizers also feature adjustable embedded audio (16 channels, 4 groups), and delay adjustment. The FRS-1002-MD-LG-PA contains a video processing amplifier and programmable video legalizer. The FRS-1002-MD and FRS-1002-MD-LG-PA provide the highest density and lowest cost-per-channel than competitive products on the market.

“We are excited to introduce the new Upconverters and Frame Synchronizers to expand our Algogear family of highly-modular, openGear-compatible products,” said Yvan Ouellet president and CEO of Algolith Inc. “Algogear solutions provide broadcasters with greater functionality, flexibility and world-class IP at unprecedented price-performance.”

The Algogear Series

The Algogear series, designed specifically for the openGear frame, is comprised of FPGA-based image processing and enhancement solutions with reprogrammable cores, allowing customers the flexibility to repurpose the functionality of the cards over time. In addition, the series offers a number of unique and innovative features including artifact and compression noise reduction, bandwidth reduction, multi-channel processing, and format conversion. The 2RU openGear frame allows users a choice of cards from over 16 vendors, and can house a mix of analog, digital, video and audio modules in the same frame; permitting broadcast professionals the freedom and flexibility to choose the best solution for their particular application.

“The new Algogear products are a natural extension to the rest of the options offered for the openGear platform,” said Jacques Patry, director of technology development at Algolith Inc. “The new Upconverters and Frame Synchronizers, along with the Video Noise Reducer cards, and the full catalog of products being offered by the openGear partners, provide a powerful alternative to the solutions already available in the marketplace today.”

Availability

The new Algogear series products will be available in late Q2.
