Triveni Digital CTO Richard Chernock to Address ATSC Mobile DTV at NAB Show's IEEE-BTS Tech Tutorial

PRINCETON, N.J. — March 25, 2009 — Triveni Digital today announced that its CTO, Dr. Richard Chernock, will be a presenter at the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society (IEEE-BTS) Technology Tutorial "The ATSC Mobile DTV Candidate Standard," offered as part of the 2009 NAB Broadcast Engineering Conference. Scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, April 18, the half-day tutorial will cover the eight different parts of the ATSC Mobile DTV standard for delivery of services to mobile and handheld devices using DTV broadcast signals.

Organized by the IEEE-BTS with support from the ATSC, the tutorial session is a follow-up to the IEEE-BTS tutorial on "Proposed ATSC Mobile/Handheld Systems" presented at the 2008 NAB Show. The 2009 session gives careful attention to the ATSC Mobile DTV Standard, and each element of the standard will be discussed by a technical expert deeply involved in its development.

Chernock's presentations will cover the management sub-layer within the system, including transport, signaling, file delivery, streaming delivery, and optionally, a return channel. The presentation will also cover the service guide, which delivers information about services on the broadcast channel.

"ATSC Mobile DTV, and the standard that supports it, represents an exciting advance for the broadcast industry," said Chernock. "Our hope is that this technology tutorial will answer engineers' questions about the candidate standard and facilitate member understanding and approval of the proposed standard, designated A/153, later this year."

Chernock is active in many of the ATSC and SCTE standards committees, particularly in the areas of metadata, monitoring, and data broadcast. Within ATSC he chairs a number of ad hoc committees whose work relates to metadata and transport issues. He is vice-chair of the Technology Group on Distribution (TSG) and chairs the Non-Real-Time Services and Mobile/Handheld management layer activities within ATSC. He also is a participant in the SCTE HMS activity.
