Volicon Introduces Observer® Edge, a Cost-Effective Monitoring Solution

BURLINGTON, Mass. -- April 14, 2008 -- Volicon, the leading provider of media monitoring, recording, archiving, and streaming solutions, today introduced the Observer® Edge, a cost-effective video monitoring solution that enables cable MSOs and station groups to ensure quality of service for remote and unstaffed “dark” stations.

The Volicon Observer brings new levels of efficiency to many critical broadcasting tasks, such as monitoring and troubleshooting transmissions, ensuring compliance, verifying advertising broadcasts, and tracking and analyzing viewer ratings and public relations information. The Observer Edge offers a subset of the core Observer functionality that enables broadcasters to monitor remote transmitters, translators, or stations running in automated mode. The Observer Edge continuously monitors video output at the remote station and transmits quality data to a central server. When the system detects a video or audio fault, it automatically sends a clip demonstrating the error to the operator on duty for resolution.

“Until now, cable MSOs and station groups with a large number of single-channel, remotely located stations and translators have not had a cost-effective and reliable means of monitoring those stations and verifying transmission quality,” said Julius Perl, vice president of marketing at Volicon. “With the Observer Edge, we‘re meeting the needs of these broadcasters by packaging the necessary Observer functionality in a smaller, affordable form factor.”
