GLOBALSTOR DEBUTS REDe 4K AT NAB 2009

Next-generation of ExtremeStor-DI REDe workstation is first to offer native, uncompressed 4K resolution

Las Vegas, NV, April 20, 2009 ─ Globalstor® Data Corporation, a premier OEM integrator of high-performance RAID, SAN and storage/video servers, proudly announces REDe 4K, the next generation of its acclaimed ExtremeStor-DI REDe video storage workstation at NAB 2009. This new solution is the first to offer native, uncompressed 4K resolution playback for professionals who work with digital intermediate (DI) and RED digital cinema content. And, unlike any approach offered by the competition, the REDe 4K offers its robust architecture, scalability, reliability and ease-of-use in a single portable system.

Growing numbers of post-production facilities, screening rooms, independent editors, colorists, and cinematographers require solutions capable of playing back RED digital cinema content in real time at high resolution. In the RED environment, users previously would play back RED footage at 2K resolutions and then render out the RED content into 2K or 4K frames. While prior systems allowed for 2K uncompressed content, Globalstor’s new REDe 4K solution lets users play back uncompressed 4K.

According to Scott Leif, president of Globalstor Data Corporation, this is a significant step forward for the industry. “The key is being able to play out to displays ─ the next generation 4K displays as well as 4K projectors. Comparing 4K to 2K is like comparing HD to standard definition. It’s a major leap.”

Incorporating NVIDIA® Quadro Plex 2200 D2, the system’s playback mechanism will be powered by the SCRATCH® Data-Centric Workflow Solution developed by film post and post-production software and solutions provider ASSIMILATE™. “Partnered with ASSIMILATE, this new solution gives customers a 4K digital workflow with the ability to conform, color grade, finish and play back content in real time at the highest resolutions currently being handled in post production, without the need to down res,” says Leif.

“NVIDIA Quadro Plex 2200 D2 matches up to the critical demands for motion picture workflow and production pipelines,” says Jeff Medeiros, senior business development manager, PNY Technologies, NVIDIA partner.

The REDe 4K workstation will be available in rack and tower versions. Capacity ranges from 1.4 TB to 9 TB.

Globalstor will demonstrate this technology at NAB with ASSIMILATE at the latter’s demo suite (#730) at the Renaissance Hotel. Visitors can see how REDe 4K works in conjunction with the SCRATCH DI software to process RED ONE™ 4K camera footage and render out to 4K DPX files. The demonstration will show 4K content played back in real time as well as real-time color grading on this single solution.
