Ross openGear Wins Society of Broadcast Engineers Technology Award

Ross Video announced today that the openGear Terminal Equipment Platform has won the prestigious Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) Technology Award, for the 2006 Awards Program.

The SBE Technology Award recognizes the SBE Individual or Sustaining Member who, in the previous year, has provided the industry with the best new or innovative technical item or idea to further the science of broadcast engineering and to assist the broadcast engineer to be more productive in the craft. The Award will be presented during the SBE National Meeting taking place October 10 -11, 2007 in Monroeville (Pittsburgh), PA.

“We are extremely pleased and honored openGear has won the SBE Technology Award,” said Eric Goodmurphy, Marketing Product Manager, RossGear. “openGear continues to revolutionize the terminal equipment industry by offering customers the freedom to choose the best solution for their particular needs. This award recognizes the partners and individuals that are committed to the advancement of terminal equipment technology by setting a new standard in the broadcast industry.”

openGear is based on an open-architecture, 2RU modular frame, designed to accommodate up to 10 cards. A wide variety of cards are available from terminal equipment vendors supporting the openGear platform, allowing facilities the freedom and flexibility to choose the best technology for their particular applications. Customers are no longer locked into one manufacturer‘s frame standard and modules for their terminal equipment solutions. openGear also provides the platform with a control system that allows quick and easy monitoring and control of frames and modules on the network.

The openGear partners include: Ross Video, Cobalt Digital, Ward-Beck, Claratech, B&M, Wohler, Telecast, Chromatec, Practel, Algolith, BAL Broadcast, Norpak, Redbyte Design, and Sonifex.

This is the fourth award for openGear. Additional awards include: the NAB 2006 Award for Innovation in Media (AIM), 2006 STAR Award for Superior Technology awarded by TV Technology, and 2006 Gemini Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.

The Society of Broadcast Engineers is a non-profit organization serving the interests of broadcast engineers.
