TVB Tech Alert: Hitachi Cell Phone Records 720p Video

TOKYO: Hitachi will be releasing a cell phone that captures 720p video on Monday, Endgadgetsays. The new Mobile Hi-Vision Cam Wooo is said to have 1,280-by-720 video recording, a 5 megapixel sensor, HDMI interface and a microSDHC slot. The phone is expected to become available via Japanese cell-service provider KDDI. No U.S. carrier launches were mentioned, however.

The Cam Wooo is at least the second 720p-capable cell phone on the global market. Samsung introduced the OmniaHD in February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The OmniaHD features an 8 megapixel sensor, a 3.7-inch active-matrix led organic light-emitting diode display, WiFi and 8 GB of storage. The OmniaHD has been launched by U.K. carrier Orange as the i8910 HD. It’s capable of use on some, but not all, of AT&T’s U.S. 3G networks, MobileBurn says. -- Deborah D. McAdams
